Photoshop CS Slowdown

I have a strange problem with Photoshop. It currently takes 2 minutes to load on a dual xeon 2.4ghz/2gb ram PC. The slowdown happens up to the splash screen, then it loads as normal. Creating a new file takes 3 and half minutes using the default settings!!

Once Photoshop has loaded the program responds as normal except for loading or creating a new file. Saving files is as normal.

To solve the problem I unplug the PC network cable from the back of an ADSL wireless router, but obviously then I have no internet acces or access to the network printers.

It only happens with Photoshop, all other adobe programs are fine.

I’ve deleted the prefs file and re-installed the software, but still this problem.

Any ideas?

Hmmmmm…..Sounds like PSCS could be "phoning home" for updates. Can you turn it off in preferences? Or is it hitting your firewall and being delayed there?

I’ve finally identified the problem to my network print server that had reset after a power cut. The IP address had changed and of course my PC was looking for a printer that no longer existed. Interesting though that PSCS wants to find a printer before loading. In fact if you make an online printer the default rather than a network printer, loading is even quicker.

Thanks for this follow-up. I just took about 45 sec off my PSCS start time by setting the default printer to a local one! Had assumed that all the plug-ins and fonts were the culprit.
