Im using photoshop CS3 on Vista, now Im trying to remove the background from a picture using the filter, extract method, I did that correctly and can now move the picture around over the gray and white tranparency backdrop. My problem is trying to save the picture without a background. Every time i save it as a JPEG the white background returns,
Im trying to upload the picture to a webpage without a background, so it matches the webpage’s background, and doesnt have the white background it originally had.

Can someone please assist me with this task.

The JPEG format does not support transparency.

Either use GIF or PNG. Or you could make the background colour match the website you are trying to upload your pictures to.

Rob ,

The JPG format does not support transparency!

For a web page you need to save it as a GIF or, if that compromises quality, which it will for a photograph, save it as a PNG.

Or, if the web page has an even colour background us that colour in the transparent area of your image.

I was thinking about the background match, but I wanted the picture to be on the webpage without a box around it. I also tried the GIF format but it failed. Ill try the PNG and if that fails Ill just background match. Thanks for your replies :0)

Find the value by opening the background in Photoshop. Then open the Color Picker and use the eye dropper tool. The easiest value to note is the six digit #number at the bottom of the box.

Use that colour to fill your transparent area.

Photoshop 7.0 on XP the image>adjustments>brightness/contrast dialog screen is not visible anywhere on the screen. The eyedropper is active but everything else is ‘dead’. After reinstalling Photoshop 7.0 it’s fine for about 2 days and then the "brightness/contrast" dialog screen is no longer visible again.

An image has a distinct background, for instance
#1A2B3C hexadecimal. The image is compressed as
JPEG and then placed in a HTML table cell with
exactly the same background color #1A2B3C.

No – the colors don’t match.
JPEG compression modifies all colors a little,
but the table cell background is accurate.

Therefore it’s recommended to fill the HTML table
cell by a repeated JPEG image, for instance 16×16
pixels (not less), with exactly the original color
#1A2B3C and using exactly the same settings for
the compression.
That’s the only method for creating matching back-
grounds, IMHO.
