Hello,
I’m working as a web designer, creating layout and working with CSS. Actually I’m using Photoshop CS.

My boss asked me what was the interest of upgrading to Photoshop CS3 (and I’d like to).

How can I convince him ? What new functions are really useful to create web sites ? What can help me to work faster ? Why is it worth the cost and so on.

Thanks for your suggestions.

For me, it was smart object layers. They allowed me to test the looks of designs and make changes to vector graphics as needed and has saved me GOBS of time.

Others will have more pertinent things to say about web design, but while the smart object layer thing is not the only reason it was enough for me.

Alni,

Should it be that you use ImageReady substantially, be aware that it is not provided with Photoshop CS3. Instead, Adobe stripped out some of IR’s more powerful features and ported some of the basic functionality into Photoshop CS3. This leaves you paying more for a product with less functionality than its predecessor in regard to web-related image editing and preparation, while also encouraging you to then spend even more for Fireworks. At the very least, Adobe should’ve provided Fireworks CS3 in a package with PS priced no more than $50-75 over PS CS3 by itself.

So, hang on to IR CS if you need it for anything that PC CS3 can’t do.

Regards,

Daryl

Good point. I forgot about that. Then again, I hardly ever used IR.

You might often need to take a photo and extract something from the background to make header images and whatnot, the new smart selection tool is awesome!

Not perfect but more often that not it saves you from spending a lot of time making a selection with the pen tool.

That feature alone made the upgrade worth it for me.
