Photoshop cs3 has been working fine on Windows Vista. This morning an Adobe update loaded automatically. Since then Photoshop opens then shuts down with following message:
adobe\version cue cs3\client\3.1\versioncue.dll not found.

I have uninstalled photoshop cs3 using Control Panel/Programs & Features. Then I reinstalled Photoshop cs3 and version cue. The same error occurs. I have done this three times.

I’ve searched and found versioncue.dll on the c: drive.

I don’t know how to resolve this and wonder if it was caused by the latest update to assorted CS3 programs.

I have printer deadlines next week that require the use of photoshop, so this is a critical error. I appreciate any suggestions. I could not find anything in faqs or the user forums on this topic.

The only other piece of info that might be relevant is that I had a hard drive crash 3 wks ago. Dell installed a new hard drive on which I reloaded CS3. Dell also took the crashed drive and installed it as a secondary drive so I could transfer my document files. I had to reinstall my applications on the new primary drive although the applications software was still resident on the secondary drive but didn’t work.

I reinstalled CS3 and Photoshop was working fine. I did a backup of all my document files from Carbonite that completed late yesterday, but that did not include applications program files. However photoshop quit working after that backup completed and the new Adobe update loaded.

Try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.

<http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1>

You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.

This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.

A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

If that cures it, deselect "Enable Version Cue" in Edit > Preferences > File Handling.

John,
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately deleting the preferences file in Photoshop didn’t solve the problem.
Photoshop tech support finally found two updates that they had me download that solved the problem. Thanks. carolynn

Adobe tech support had me download and install two Version Cue updates Adobe Asset Services CS3 3.1.0 update
Adobe Version Cue CS3 Server 3.1.0 update

That fixed my problem with the versioncue3.1.1.dll file not being found, causing Photoshop to close.

Here is the link to the update page for all the version cue downloads. Stumbled on it through a Google search.
