I get this error whenever I try and run Photoshop CS3. Any ideas?

1) what file?
2) does photoshop keep opening or crash?

if it keeps opening, it’s probably a problem with a 3rd party file, a plugin or printer or scanner driver or something like that.

if it crashes, reinstalling may fix it.

It opens, gives that blue box that says it’s loading, and then that error message appears and it closes. I have reinstalled it plenty of times and have tried updating to 10.0.1 but the same error. =/ I’ve searched all over.

tried resetting the preferences? (full instructions are in the FAQ at the top of the forum.)

running as an administrator or regular user?

no idea what file it’s looking for?

in the splash screen, can you tell what the last thing it’s doing is, before the error? (loading preferences, loading plugins, etc.)

No it doesn’t say anything besides that. Yeah I tried resetting the preferences and logging onto the administrator account in safe mode but still no luck.

The last message was "measuring memory."

It’s strange because I’ve tried googling the problem and I can’t find anyone else who’s had it…

Thanks for the help so far dave 🙂

logging onto the administrator account in safe mode

what about as administrator in normal mode? or even a new admin account? i’m not 100% sure it’ll run in safe mode. i’m trying to get at what it’s trying to do, and failing on. if it’s a permissions thing, the admin account should let it through…

Oh wow. I just created a new user with administrator privileges, and it worked. But the user I’ve been using has them as well…strange. Well, it’s definitely a permissions thing, or at least something wrong with this specific user. =/

I guess I could use the new user for only photoshop, but it would be easier if I could get it working on this one. Any ideas?

The new account obviously has fresh preferences.

Are you sure you really reset your preferences in the other one?

You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.

This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.

(A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences.)

what john said. but sometimes it seems a new user is the only way.

Yeah erasing the preferences didn’t fix it. I did the ctrl, alt, shift method and did get the notice, and I tried it like three times. 😛

bad id then. i’ve seen it before with other things. switching ids stinks. usually i’ll create a new id then slowly move stuff over to it from my old id. when i’m sure i have everything, i leave it for a couple weeks. then when i’m REALLY sure i have everything (:)) i’ll delete the old id.

Thanks for the help, I guess that’s the only way to do it. At least it’s working now. 🙂
