Hi,

I just upgraded my RAM from 2GB – 4GB. I’m using PS CS2 on a Dell Precision 380, with Windows XP Professional, vers 2002. While my computer recognises the upgrade in memory, when I go to ‘Preferences’ within PS it still tells me that only 2gb is available – any ideas on how I get PS to recognise the extra RAM?

Any thoughts appreciated,

Thanks a lot!

You need to use the /3GB switch to allow applications to see more than 2MB RAM. —

also in xp pro you’ll only be able to see between 3 and 4 gig max (depending on system) regardless. charlie’s got the right answer though… here’s how to set up the /3gb switch in your boot.ini file.

You could also switch to Vista 64 and wait for Photoshop CS4. That’ll take all the RAM you can throw at it.

Thank-you for that, here’s where I have to admit that even reading the link you posted I’m still not sure where that 3GB switch is and where to change it – I’m not too au fait with the mechanics of my computer – is there any way you could give me the dummies gide to doing it?

I’d REALLY appreciate it, thanks

this should be a bit clearer.

you can get in trouble messing with the boot.ini file. if you’re not comfortable following those instructions please get someone who is to do it for you.

Pretty good with the French idioms, though…
