Hello. I recently discovered that if I try to use the color blue in Photoshop (RGB 0 0 255 or #0000FF) then it shows up quite purple. This is only in Photoshop, though. I made an image and filled it with blue. It shows up blue if viewed in firefox or mspaint, but purple in photoshop.

I have tried messing with the Color Settings, including turning them off, to no avail. I know it’s not a problem with my monitor since the colors show up correctly in other programs, but just to be safe I tried to update the drivers. My computer says they are up to date.

The only color that has this problem is blue. I’ve reinstalled photoshop, patched it, scoured the internet for solutions, and no success.

Anyone know what may be causing this?

Your monitor profile is bad you need to remake it.

LCDs are best calibrated with a hardware calibrator

The profile is bad even though the colors show up correctly in everything BUT photoshop? How do I go about calibrating it correctly?

Thanks for the response.

Yes, Photoshop is colormanaged and uses the profile to display the image the other apps don’t.

Use a hardware calibrator like an EyeOne2 or Spyder Pro.

Hmm, surely there is a way to correct this problem without spending any money?

if cs2 or below, use adobe gamma (in the control panel). if cs3, google for "free monitor calibration". there are several free programs out there. none are going to do as good a job as a hw calibrator but if it’s not for pro use, they should be ok. at least blue should look blue. 🙂

the reason Adobe stopped supplying the Adobe Gamma software is that eyeball calibrators are not very accurate on an LCD.
