I need some help making a banner for my web page. I have done this successfully before but now photoshop does not seem to be reacting the same after installing on a new pc.

Is there a method on the forums for me to upload the pic and ask for specific instructions?

Or…is there a beeter place to post this request.

You can post an image at pixentral.com with a link here but we’re going to need a much better description of the problem.

I hope this link to pixentral.com works.

If you can view it, this is one that worked correctly.

I am trying to create another similair to it.

Here is how I remember making the one you are viewing. BTW using cs2.

First I made sure the backgound was the color i wanted and then opened up a new file with the desired size and background color.

I then inserted a new layer fill with the seen pattern.

I then used the rounded rectagle box to create the rounded border.

I then used the path to highlight the rounded box i just drew.

I then clicked in the toolbar, "subract from shape area"

I then applied a stoke and I was done.

When I am trying now…The "subract from shape area" is doing nothing!

Thnaks for any help you can offer, I really am very new to this so please don’t get to technical with this. I need real easy to understand directions. 🙂

howie, in the future use the html code, not the forum code at pixentral and you’ll get a nice little thumbnail…

This pic that is showing is much larger than the actual image, it is also somewhat cropped on the bottom.

ya. they seem to have a problem with small images. 🙂

GENERALLY though, that’s what you’d do. 🙂

I have also tried reseting my photoshop using the ctrl+alt+shift when launching the app, but it only brings up the shortcuts properties dialoge box.

can you make sure the shape is actually "selected" before doing that.

I will try that but I know that I did not do that previously. I am 100% certain of that…unless of course there was something behind the scenes that did it for me. I am assuming that once i draw that outline you want me to right click on it and select it.

Here is my process now….

Open new file.
Select "layer" from top bar
Select "new layer > pattern"
Choose pattern and now image is full of the pattern (so far so good) Select "rounded rectangle tool"
draw rounded rectangle
select "path" tool
click on outline of rounded rectangle (little boxes appear on outline) right click image and choose "make selection"
(outline now has a marquee like, dotted outline)
path toolbar across top is now grayed out, I cannot seem to proceed.

Thoughts please.

Guys/Gals thanks for your time. I managed to make it work by trial and error. It seems it wanted me to add a vector mask. I am not really sure what that is exactly but after a few tries in different locations I got my desired results.

BTW, is there a place to download more patterns for free. I have tried a few times to find some but haven’t had much luck.
