I am trying to make a clean font heading to my web site. <http://mgrsocialclub.1-eurohost.com>
I am using Vianta at 36pts but always seem to get jagged edges to the letters. I am sure that I am not set up right as I have never had this problem before.
Can anyone help please?

Does the text look clean onscreen in Photoshop before you save it as a JPEG?

If so, you’re compressing it too much.

If not, check your Character Palette. Is the Anti-aliasing setting set to "None"?

If yes, try one of the other settings.

If not, you may be trying to use a bitmap font that will only appear smooth at the point size for which it was created.

Thanks for reply
I am typing true type fonts and it does not matter what setting I have the Anti-aliasing, when I type the edges are jagged. I did a search on "jagged edges" and I found that other people have the same problem which had not been resolved. It does seem to be a anti-aliasing problem. It has not always been like this

Roy…

Click on my user name, just above, in blue, to navigate to my profile and my email address. Send me a copy of your font, and I’ll see if I have trouble on my set up.

LEGAL NOTE: I’ll remove it from my system as soon as I’m done testing it!

This looks like too high a level of jpg compression. Use the "Save for Web" feature of Photoshop to select the lowest compression that you can get before the artifacting that surrounds the letters appears.

Roy….

Let me let you in on a little secret:

My first reply to you was a very logical progression of steps that, by your answers, would help anyone reading zero in on exactly which problems you’re having.

Had you answered them, point-by-point, describing what you tried and what your results were, we’d be further along in the process of figuring out how to get you where you want to be.

We’re here to help, but it’s a two-way street.
"I did a search on "jagged edges" and I found that other people have the same problem which had not been resolved. It does seem to be a anti-aliasing problem. It has not always been like this"
If "it has not always been like this" then something changed. Your challenge is to root out exactly WHAT has changed, and then, figure out a way to fix or work around it.
You have either a bad font, or you’re using incorrect procedures. Without more info from you, no body will be able to tell which it is.

Troubleshooting = Logic, with a little educated intuition thrown in so you’re not just flailing blindly about.

Nevermind sending the font…took me 30 seconds to find it online.

I just reproduced your header, compressed it even smaller in file size than yours, and it looks dead-perfect.

Try again…experiment with different settings till you get it. There’s nothing wrong with Photoshop.
