I have this strange problem… for some reason I can’t start a new paragraph when I hit enter. It just closes the text layer and I have to double click the layer to open it back up. Even when I do that, I can’t create a new line break. The same thing happens in InDesign.

I’m using CS3 and Vista.

Are you pressing "Enter" or the carriage return?

For me "Enter" commits the type and carriage return drops the cursor to the next line.

If this doesn’t happen, reset the Type Tool.

Thanks Josh,

The only option I have is Enter 🙂 Is there a way to change how the enter works?

How about Shift+Enter or Ctrl+Enter?

Are you on a laptop?

Most normal keyboards have one "Carriage Return/Enter" key above the RH Shift key and an "Enter" bottom far right.

also laptop related, that key might require you hold the Fn key to access it…

Thanks for all the help! I am on a laptop, and I had tried ctrl+enter and shift, but I didn’t try the function + enter. That did the trick!

I had to get a new laptop about a month ago which came with Vista and I was puzzled because it worked on my old laptop.

Thanks a bunch!! 😀
