My computer froze when i was working in photoshop and now that the computer is fixed i cannot load photoshop – it appears to be corrupted in some way. It stalls at the final stage of booting up. I have uninstalled it using the windows add/remove program, when that didnt work i uninstalled the entire suite but no change. It always stalls and then when i close it i get the windows message ‘end program’ as not responding.

I am using windows xp and the suite is the first one. 1.1.1 and is an upgrade. Does anyone have any idea how i can make the software work again? I managed to load it on to another machine and photoshop works correctly there – but I cant use that machine as it is a lightweight word/ss /browser only sort of machine and cant handle the file sizes i am using.

Try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.

<http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1>

You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.

This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.

A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

This doesn’t answer your question, Leone, but I had the exact same thing happen not long ago with my copy of CS. I tried everything – resetting preferences, everything listed in the link John gave you, deleting and reinstalling, contacting support, and never could make it run again. I’ve never seen anything like it.

So I hope you have better luck than I did. Sorry.

and never could make it run again.

so what are you saying? you gave up on your 1200 dollar investment and use it as a doorstop?

Thanks Deb – I did everything as John suggested to no avail. I have been forced to find another program (freeware) that does pretty much what photoshop does. So yes – it has become a useless and expenive doorstop unfortunately.

Me too – but if you cant make the software work i am not sure what else to do. Reformatting my hard drive is not an option when i can find other software to the job i need to do. Leone

Reformatting my hard drive is not an option

hmm… couple hours or… 1200 bux. seems like an easy call to me… but then i don’t make 600 bux an hour. probably wouldn’t be worth your while, huh?
