I know that Bridge stores the actual keyword(s) with the image files but where is the overall "index" located on my hard drive?

The index is the structure that gives the instant access through the images.

Thanks

Thanks for the note, John. Yes! It appears to be in a series of several files found under: C:\Documents and Settings\Jim Calvert\Application Data\Adobe\Bridge CS3\Cache\data\bridgestore.

For anyone interested, and after some testing, it seems that this "cache" must stay with your images -or- your keyword functionality will be lost. For instance, if you were to change your C drive, the cache would be rebuilt as you reopen each folder. Painful!

"EXPORTING" the keywords from the Keyword Panel certainly saved my keywords but it did NOT save the linkage( ie pointers ) between a given keyword and its assigned files.

NOTE to Adobe folks: I may have missed it somehow but this should be explained somewhere in HELP so that people can backup the appropriate directories along with images.

That doesn’t sound right to me.

My path wasn’t quite correct it should have been

C:\Documents and Settings\User name\Application Data\Adobe\Bridge CS3

and the keywords are stored in Adobe Bridge Keywords.xml

The cache files contain thumbnail data and these have to be rebuilt if image files are moved but the keywords stay with the image and are referenced by Bridge wherever the file is.
