Hello,

I’m having an issue with opening up a psd file from a PC using cs2 and opening it up on a mac with cs3. The error msg is

THERE IS A PROBLEM READING THE LAYER DATA. READ THE COMPOSITE DATA INSTEAD?

COULD NOT COMPLETE YOUR REQUEST BECAUSE THE FILE IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THIS OF VERSION.

I always thought that psds were crossable from pc to mac and vice versa? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Reading "the composite data instead" will flatten and rasterize the file.

Can you get hold of the font which was used in the original and install it on your machine?

Very likely — but there may be other problems with the file. However, you need to address the Fonts problem.

They are. How are you transferring the files? Did you Save with Maximize Compatibility on?

Could be a font issue, does the file open at all?

When I last had that message, it turned out to be a bad font.

If it is a Fonts issue, be aware that not all fonts are transferable from PC to Mac and vice versa.

I have to say though, that in the past when I’ve had conflicts like that it’s opened the file and gave the option of substituting teh font. Don’t have CS3 though.

I’d still like to know how the files are being transferred.

Sounds like a Maximize Compatibility issue. Try and resave the file out of CS2 with this option selected.

OR

You can try and open the file in Illustrator and resave it out as a PSD file.

be aware that not all fonts are transferable from PC to Mac

this is not completely true.

PC TT fonts work like any other Mac font PC type1 work on a Mac if you put them in the Adobe font folder or the application font folder.

Mac fonts will not work on a PC.

Open Type Fonts work on Both platforms

Okay.

But you would have to transport the Fonts themselves over to the Mac, correct?

Yes. But you also need to verify that the licenses for these fonts allows for installation on additional systems, etc.
