Hi

I downloaded a psd file with some bullets and arrows available on one file. Each symbol appears in the layer box as a layer but when I double click on a layer the preview box is just dark.

Does anyone know how I can extract each symbol so that I can use each individually?

Hope this makes sense…..

Thanks

In the Layers Palette activate the layer.
Do a Select All (Ctrl+A) then Edit<Copy (Ctrl<C) then File New (Ctrl<N) Finally Edit<Past (Ctrl<V)

Nic,

I’m not sure about the dark preview, but another way to use each layer in another file is to drag the layer from the layer palette onto the image area workspace of another open file. If you hold down the shift key while doing that, the content of the layer will be centered on the workspace.

I suspect those are Shape Layers. Ctrl-Click on a layer and do Edit|Define as custom Shape. That will save it in your shapes pallet. After that, you can use the Custom Shape tool and pick your defined shape.

Be sure and use your presets manager to save out your custom shapes to the hard drive in case you ever have to reset your preferences.

Peace,
Tony
