If I have a jpg or PSD file of a picture frame and I wanted to have the center be transparent how would I accomplish that. I have a program called PRO Show Producer that will let me put a picture in motion into the transparent window of a picture frame. I have a picture frame but the center is not transparent. I’m running Windows Vista.

Thanks

Rich

You cannot have a transparent section in a jpg. You can do so with a GIF, if that helps. The transparency button will allow you to select a color for transparency, or will respect transparency in the PSD file.

Rich:

Double click on the background layer of your jpeg and make it layer 1. Then select the area you want transparent with your marquee tool. Delete and your should see the transparent checkerboard.

Don’s right, you’ll need to then save as PSD, GIF or PNG24 (NOT JPG) to retain the transparency.

I’m using Photoshop CS3, Can I create a transparent targa to key into a video?. For example, I want show a drop of water in a leaf. I’ve created a drop of water with transparent and alpha channel in *.psd, than I save as to *.tga. Targa file lost transparent.
Please help me.

Check the channels. You should still see the alpha channel. That is all that is required for most video editors.

Thanks Silkrooster,
Channels’re ok, but a water is not transparent so I can see apart of the leaf that around the water, I can not see the leaf inside water. I’ve set 50% fill, 50% opacity.

Your alpha channel should have 50% gray where the leaf is in the water. If i read you right. Fill and opacity are two different things. Not sure how much you know about so I will add this any way. Opacity effects the entire layer, while fill only effects the fill leaving any effects to that layer at 100% opacity.
You could try recreating the alpha. Once you have the transparency the way you like, then open the action panel and select the video actions. In this set of actions is alpha channel from visible layers. Just run that action and it will create the alpha channel for you.
