You seem to be in tune with adobe logic…
Double click (default)… photoshop loads
Right click Open…photoshop loads
Right click Edit…photoshop loads
Right click Preview…photoshop loads
Then Fireworks does same and adds "Edit with Fireworks" as well as stealing edit.
This makes sense to you?
Sure I can change it back to a more logical way but why? In yours and adobes mind edit is same as preview?
I can even use send to. Then there is that whole set of incompatible pngs that even mspaint can open but cs3 cannot.

Go to Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > File types.
A person of you intelligence can sort it out from there.
You can choose different applications for each of the functions Open, Edit, Preview, … etc.
I do not need windows training, but apparently adobe does. I only asked if anyone knew the logic of this, but apparently NOT!

Because you didn’t tell it not to during the install, where you are given the option to determine which files will be associated with Photoshop?
In Vista it’s even easier than XP.
I did and wanted/want all files associated to photoshop/fireworks, but not for all 3-4 options.

I guess the 2 new xp command line options probably carry over, but do seem limited compared to file type dialog box of xp.
File associations in Vista:
Control Panel > Default Programs > Associate file type or protocol
Windows already has a small viewer installed.

That’s weird. I’m looking at four options under Default program as I type this, and one of them is "Associate file type"…
(The other three are Set your default programs, Change AutoPlay and Set program access).
Is this a clean Vista install or did you buy a preconfigured computer?
Who cares about the autoplay/access or whatever? You can change the DEFAULT progrogram that is opened. The other options edit/edit with/edit with blah-blah/preview are not existant.

I was waiting for that one! Fine if I am in in adobe editor mode I would load the over head. If I am managing ALL files on all drives of all computers why would I want the overhead? It is built in to file manager and still just avoids the point. Just another work arounds to skirt the issue?

another solution could be the installation of a "small" and fast viewer software like irfanview with its possibilities …
Offsprung, during the installation you can set the file association to Photoshop or leave them the way they are, at least that is the way it was with CS2. Hopefully Adobe has not changed that part of the installation.

As I have said many times so far, this is exactly what I have done, no where did I say "having so many problems with this". Other than the children on this thread I only have a problem with the logic adobe uses to clobber each and every possible file assoc. they probably even remove the /P and steal print also (print means edit too right?).
I guess if the choice is offered best to treat cs3 as one of those lame little programs that do not know how to play nice.
Then send to/open with, until I set the proper "Edit" on files I want it on. If you have say 10 file types, much easier to edit 10, than to unedit 30 (40-10). Then with vista I guess you are just SOL since you can only change the default one.
I install this a lot so will make mental note next if it has the choice, on which apps and how it varies on vista install.

I have many times. They ignore rather than reply with unrelated, even childish responses. And I thought possibly someone else has noticed this and had some helpful input. Obviously NOT!
you know you’re ranting at other users right? maybe not. so, this isn’t adobe. it’s a user to user forum. if you want to rant at adobe you should call their customer service department.

I imagine most programmers assume that if your are willing to pay for their program then you must want to use their program. It has been like this for years in the windows world. Each program you install assumes you want any or all file association that the program can read/write to belong to that program. Most programs do offer away to select which file formats you want associated during the install process. However there is nothing that says that they have to offer that feature.
It is a simple process to reset any file association therefore it is not a big deal to get worked up about. I imagine that most users on this forum have a fair knowledge about setting file associations. So it is not a big deal to them.
However if you feel that it is a big deal then you should make all efforts to contact Adobe and keep your issue with Adobe. Ranting on a forum does nobody any good.
Should you have any questions on how to accomplish a task in photoshop I am sure any one of the fine gentlemen and women would be glad to help you out.

Meh, why not? It’d be no less productive than your rude, loud blather and whinge.
And why would I need to uninstall? I’ve installed 8 or 9 versions of Photoshop on a couple dozen different Macs (my own, and colleagues’ systems) and never had to remove a one of ’em. They all just worked.
Not only are Macs a breed above, but I possess very strong system-fu.
But I use it only for good, and not for evil.
Not sure we’d want him there, Bob. He doesn’t seem to play well with others, and he seems prone to stomping around in people’s houses without taking off his muddy boots first.
