I have just purchased Photoshop CS3 student edition. However, when I try to open .CR2 files from my Canon 1ds III, a message stating that Photoshop "could not complete my request as it is not the right kind of document" appears. Whilst I can get round this by saving from DPP (which does not allow me to transfer the .CR2 files directly to Photoshop) as TIFF, this is quite slow.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Help on finding a cure would be much appreciated.

Stephen,

Make sure you’ve got the latest version of Camera Raw. The package you have is probably compiled before the Mk3 was out.

Photoshop CS3 ships with Camera Raw version 4.0, supporting camera models up to ca april 2007.

Download the current version which is 4.5.

Unzip it, and put it here: Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS3/File Formats

Remove the Camera Raw.8bi that’s already there, and put in the new one.

Note: If you’re on Vista 64, it’s Program Files (x86).
