Hi there everyone…

I have a photo of a clock …

< http://s409.photobucket.com/albums/pp175/Studentiermegs/?act ion=view&current=DSC_0679.jpg>

and what I want to do is put some text onto the face, so it looks as though it is part of the clock… so like if I took a tool and carved into the back of the face and whatever I had carved appeared raised on the front. Hope that makes sence!

Have tried bevel and emboss and pattern maker to try and get the surface of the clock, but looks terrible so I must be doing something wrong, if I have the right idea at all!

Help!

Thanks

there are loads of good 3d text tutorials on the web

< http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=3d+text+bevel+photo shop&btnG=Search>

here’s one that might be useful for you:

or perhaps a combination of techniques. have a look through those that showed up on the google search above.

What size and font are you using? Bevel and Emboss works best with chunky, solid faces. It will look horrid if the type is small and/or thin stroked.

In your case the perspective will kill you. More or less I think you are not looking for a straightforward bevel and emboss at all, but rather a way to create the illusion of the stamped faces catching light. Even if you flatten bevel&emboss before transforming it, it will look goofy. Therefore I would recommend to create this in multiple layers. I suppose you should only create the shadowed areas using bevel&emboss on a white layer, then transform that and use multiply blendmode. Likewise, for the base you’d only use a slightly tinted version and use a blendmode. After that, I’d use Find Edges on a duplicate, remove all unwanted lines, blur it and place it on top to create the soft curvature you have on embossed plates. Might take some experimentation, but certainly will ook more "real" than a layer style only.

No offense, Studentier, but a lot of people think Photoshop is a one-click trick for almost anything. It can do almost anything, but you have to learn the basics.

Mylenium’s description is pretty straightforward and makes perfect sense to me. Especially this part:

In your case the perspective will kill you

If you think about it, you’ll see why 🙂

Meanwhile, take dave’s advice and check those links.

just a thought, have you checked with your camera manufacturer? they often have utility software. there might be some way you can tether the camera to the system and preview in some application made by the manufacturer?

i’m not a photography pro, so i may be way off, but i think i’ve heard of this being done.
