Your background image should be mirrored top/bottom,
then left/right, then saved as background.
Then it can be reproduced by automatical repetition
by HTML without showing discontinuities at edges.
An example for top/bottom mirroring:

I think I found a way and it seems to work pretty good.
(I also think that it’s what ure referring to)

By going to filter–>other–>offset and selecting the middle of Hight and Width of the picture(in pixels; lets say my image is 200×200 pixels, then you select 100 and 100) you flip your picture inside out so edges will match.

The major downfall of this technique is that it tottaly scrumbles up the middle so you have to cover it with something(I use the stamping tool to reproduce the texture from different areas).

Seems to work so pretty good after you cover it tho.

I have another question if noone minds:
On average, what is the maximum image size(diameters)/and file size(kbs) does one recommend to use for a picture to tile my sites background?

File size should not exceed 70kB or so, otherwise even on a DSL connection the BG image may take longer to load than the rest of the page. The actual pixel size doesn’t matter in this case, you should just be aware that just like prolonged loading, large images may enforce extra rendering refreshes in the browser, e.g. when scrolling, and can cause ugly flicker. Depending on what you design the site for, this may not be of any consequence, though, other factors like overall available server bandwidth from your ISP or dynamic page content may consume much more resource and cause delays.
