Illustrator can easily do that. Photoshop however, can’t. If you have Illustrator, just open the picture and hit Livetrace. You can adjust your settings afterwards.

Have you got Illustrator?

If not there’s always this:

In Photoshop you can trace off areas using the Pen tool and make them into custom Shapes, but this can get clumsy fast.

Illustrator or Freehand or another vector program would be a much better option. However, you won’t be able to learn these skills overnight.

As John says, vectormagic, but it isn’t free.

Fancy me – the big Illustrator hater – not mentioning FreeHand!

I guess since Adobe killed it I don’t expect people to have it any more.

I will keep FreeHand MX until it won’t run any more.

Is it really dead? Pity.

I hope Illy can adopt some of the features Freehand has. Multiple pages and the way the Color List (Swatches) are handled, but I doubt it will.

Tomorrow is the CS4 announcement.

Or is it the announcement of the announcement. Will they announce the features, or just the date when the features will be announced.

I’m being silly because they announced the announcement. Still cracks me up.

Or is it the announcement of the announcement.

Yahoo story I read last week (don’t recall the publisher) said Adobe is releasing CS4 tomorrow.

Google live trace. Basically you bring the image into Illustrator and trace it with vector shapes.

I think you can do what you want, but it won’t be easy for a beginner. Maybe ask on the Illustrator Forum.
