I am baffled beyond belief as to what has happened with my photoshop CS3. It may be something to do with colour spaces which I dont really understand but all the clours are dull, , in windows explorer they look vibrant but when opened in photoshop even with profile adobe rgb1998 they are really dull. Even in the colour palette they are dull like they have been desaturated.

really dont know what to do, Ive reinstalled the program but its the same.

Hold down ctrl-alt-K, make sure the advanced color settings are available, and the desaturate monitor colors" option is not checked.

If the above does not solve the problem, chances are your monitor profile is wrong. As a test, go into the Display control panel, and find your way to the Color Management tab – it’s buried under the Advanced Settings. If you see a screwy profile there, very likely that’s the problem.

Otherwise, add sRGB to the list of profiles shown there and make it the default. If that fixes things, look around for the manufacturer’s generic profile for your monitor, or set your monitor to the sRGB preset if it has one.

Your Adobe RGB images are dull when viewed in Windows Explorer? No kidding. WE is a non color managed application and either assumes sRGB or Monitor RGB for the image it is diplaying. Depending on which monitor you are using and how it has been calibrated, this is exactly as to be expected. It’s the same as Assigning the wrong profile to your file in Photoshop.
