Ok, I went through the knowledge base, help files, Adobe performance increase suggestions, etc.

I have a very fast PC (only takes about 6 seconds for Photoshop to start) but no matter if I open a TIFF or JPEG file, it takes about 7 seconds for the file to open (TIFF is only about 7 MB). It tried this with many different files on the local drive or the network drive and have the same results.

Interestingly, when using the Image Processor or the Web Photo Gallery, then the file opens in a split second. I have a 2nd PC running CS3 as well under XP and have compared Photoshop settings and everything is identical. The 2nd PC doesn’t have any issues with these files.

I have even tried the suggestion to switch from a network printer to a local one – doesn’t make any difference.

The folks at NAPP were not able to help me.

Any ideas? I run a lot of batch runs with several 1,000 images and this huge time delay is killing me.

Thanks

Bernd

did you delete the network printer? if not try that.

if you’re in vista, turn aero interface off. or on. opposite of what you have it set to now.

I switched it from Aero to Basic and also deleted my network printer, then restarted the PC and PS. But still have the same results.

Any other ideas?

Have you tried making a generic printer driver your default printer. If you don’t have one, download it here:

A strike of luck got me to the solution. So I wanted to share it.

In Vista, when right-clicking on the PS3 icon, then selecting Properties, then the “Compatibility” tab, there is the option to run this program in compatibility mode for XP, etc. It was checked in my case (who knows why). After unchecking everything works fine and fast again.
