I have Photoshop CS2 and a Canon XSi camera. Being out of the loop for awhile, I’m completely lost. So, how do I go about getting RAW files into PS CS2? I’m Using Windows XP.
Thanks,

There’s no quick answer to that.

When I started with raw images I first read "Real World Camera Raw With Photoshop CS3"by Bruce Fraser and Jeff Schewe. You can still get the CS2 version but I’d consider upgrading your Photoshop to CS4 next month.

Thanks for the input. Until 10 minutes ago I didn’t even know that RAW needed a Plug-In to operate. The book on CS2 that I read didn’t mention this particular.

I’ll try a quick answer anyway… 😉

You need the latest version of the Adobe Camera Raw plugin that will work in CS2, and that’s version 3.7.

Download that and follow instructions carefully. The exact path is important.

Still, your camera may not be supported in that version. If so, you need to convert the camera raw files to the DNG format, which can be read by Camera Raw 3.7. The free-standing DNG converter is also a free download from Adobe. This time, however, you need the very latest version, currently 4.5.

The two come as a bundled download at the same version number, so you actually need to download both 3.7 and 4.5 – then ditch the irrelevant component from each.

Thanks again. Another Question…Does the Raw Plug-In come with the "File Browser"? My knowledge on this subject is nil.

Addendum: Thanks for your time in answering my question. I will upgrade to CS 4 and hopefully the RAW Plug-In for my particular camera will be included.
