Is there some way I can leave select areas white and unaffected by transparency?

Thanks, Rachel

Very mystifying. Can you explain further what you are trying to do?

Paint with white. Be sure to set the paint brush mode to multiply in the options bar at the top of the screen.

Hi,
This message is a continuation of "turning white/paper area in to transparent area" (previous post). I have learnt that in Adobe Indesign I can simply set the transparecy mode to "multiply" so that the drawing I have done is on a transparent background (This is great since I need underlying layers in ID to show through!) However, there is one area of the drawing (a persons face) which I need to remain white (i.e. paper colour), and not be affected by the transparency. It is fiddly to paint wite and therefore I need to automatically "fill" it. I tried John’s option, but then in when the painting was placed into ID, the transparency of the other areas was lost, when I clicked "multiply". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Rachel

Rach,

You’ll need to "put" white pixels there one way or another. If using a brush is too fiddly, and you want to "fill," you’ll still have to confine that fill to the desired area. That would be done with a selection. This is one of the primary "skills" one must develop when learning and using Photoshop…making effective selections…and there are many techniques employed in doing so. Often, making a good selection involves combining two or more methods.

Do a Google search on "how to make selections in Photoshop." Read a few tutorials. It will only take a small amount of your time, and put you on the road to learning one of the most fundamental things about using Photoshop effectively.
