Possible running Photoshop in background (without GUI)?

I am wondering if it’s possible to run Photoshop in command line mode without launching its GUI?
I am using Photoshop as part of my image batch conversion pipeline and its much preferred if Photoshop can run in command line mode "quietly" without launching its GUI. Right now the closet thing I can get is to use a droplet so at least I can call it in command line, but it always launches GUI.
