Complicated Batch Question?

I’ve tried doing this a few times and ways and now and I’m running out of options.

I need to be able to save 5 different images (800px 600px 400px 150px 35px)so I use 5 actions that put a copyright on the image, reduce the size and do a couple other things. That all works fine.

I run into problems when I try to affix a prefix on them like XZname.jpg (XZ for 800px) (ZO for 600px)…

I want to be able to process all 5 image sizes at the same time.

I usually have a few images open and so it doesn’t need to process on an entire folder.

I want to be able to save to the web and it should "remember" that the 800 gets saved with "medium" compression and the 600 with "high" compression.

(I’ve tried saving my "save to web" defaults but actions aren’t able to "remember" that I’ve loaded some save to web settings.

I’ll probably have more to add.

Thanks

How do I keep run a batch and keep the file I’m running the batch on open?

Here’s an update…

I found that it’s impossible to process my images with Photoshop CS3.

It comes down to the fact that I can’t use "Save As" and define the prefix, filename and extension.

Batch process has this function but it’s just not available in regular image save. I tried saving a profile in the Save For Web window but there’s no way to call these settings up so that they can be applied to an action.

You can achieve this by writting a script instead of using a Batch. Scripts have many more possibilities than batches and are more suitable for advanced processing.

ArtJunky – the way I would do it, without scripting is to make up 5 folders one for each image size, these folders are labelled 800px, 600px etc. Then your action can resample the ORIGINAL and place them in sequence into the 5 folders. ONE ACTION.

You are right the action can’t rename the files but thats extremely easy with many free renaming utilities out there. Its just a simple drag and drop, and the files are renamed how you want in each folder

As a side point, to do this properly you need to use Snapshots and regress the image back to its full size before each downsample – this is because progressive downsampling is very damaging
