Just updated my copy of PCTools Spyware Doctor and Antivirus.

Immediately, I get a message stating I have a backdoor virus and I can’t open Photoshop CS2 or InDesign CS2. However, Fireworks CS3 and Dreamweaver CS3 remain intact.

The details are:

Backdoor.IRC.Flood
C:/Prog Files/Common Files/AdobeSystemsShared/Service/AdobeLMSVC.EXE

When I try to run CS2, the apps open but immediately close down saying I don’t have administrator rights.

Anyone else had similar experience?

Thanks

Thanks folks. How come PCTools assumes it’s a virus? Odd.

you know, just a thought. it’s not unheard of for a virus to take the name of a known application. what are the time, date stamp and size of the executable in question?

Actually what the software is indicating is that Adobe is calling home way too often if it monitors the connection and considers it a ‘flood’. This is a technique used by spyware to get access to your computer, to put it simply, it keeps knocking at the door until someone answers. This is an issue with virtual port 113 ‘ident’ that ‘shakes hands’ with you computer to give it access to certain server software.

You should go to Gibson Research at <http://grc.com/default.htm> for more information about this.

Don’t really understand this but I don’t mind it ‘knocking’ and doing what it has to do as long as this is part of the prog and not something else.

Well maybe the software is not up-to-date on the Adobe stuff. I’ve had issues with my virus software making reports about files that it uses. Strange, but true.
