Adding a Shadow 3D

I’m trying to create a shadow but I’d like to make it so it appears like it’s in 3D. The shadows utility under Layer Style makes a shadow as if the object would be floating on top of the other layer. But what if I would like to make it appear as if it would be touching the other layer at one point. For example a ball on a table or a person standing up on the grass.
