Well, since you’re posting in the Photoshop Forum, it’s likely that most of us here like Photoshop. However, your versions of Elements are several years old, and it might be worthwhile for you to just upgrade to the latest version (Elements 7 was recently announced) before spending hundreds of dollars on Photoshop CS3/4.
Keep in mind that you only told us what software you are using — not anything about what you are trying to do with it, or if you feel it limits you in any way. Bang for the buck though? Elements.
Just simple touch up and triming, what most would think of as basic stuff mostly, the kids know more about the software than I do (lol), but I was thinking about an upgrade of the programs. Thank you for your thoughts.

Absolutely, considering the price. Except for one thing: Camera Raw. I haven’t used Elements myself, but they say ACR is severely crippled compared to the full Photoshop version. So if you shoot
raw format in 16 bit color depth converting to tiff
that suggests you might consider Photoshop over Elements. Download the trials and see for yourself. But update the Camera Raw plugin (for both) to 4.5 before making any judgements.
Elements (7) will be more than sufficient for your needs. Personally I use Photoshop CS3 but I teach Elements and it keeps amazing me how powerful Elements is…

I also use Elements for basic work on a secondary machine, it is really under-rated for RGB work.

It certainly doesn’t have all the functions but may well have enough for Prophet. He should check.
