I had to wipe and reload an XP computer that is part of a domain. It creates many drawings using Photoshop 6.0 and saves them ob our server. Any jpeg created before the reload has no security issues. However, users from other PCs in the domain get access denied when trying to open the jpegs created after the reload. Here’s the catcher, if the original users moves the drawing out of that folder and then moves it back – no problem. It seems Photoshop puts another layer of security on and onces windows does something with it, that security is removed. In the forums I have read about a certain Adobe service that has to be started with a certain user. I don’t seem to have that service. Any help would be appreciated.

do you have 6.01 update loaded? might help. i don’t think it’s a ps issue. most likely a user id/permissions thing.

No, not Photoshop. Normal Windows behavior – if you wipe your disks and then reinstall, all security IDs on a system will be calculated fresh. Old user IDs will remain in place on the files themselves, though, which in turn can mean that technically the files are still "owned" by a user that no longer exists. Moving them around merely assigns a new owner who is in the next available default user group, either administrators or power users. Check the parent directory’s properties and simply delete those old user keys ,then take ownership of the files with a new user or the server’s default admin account.

I looked at the ownership and all seems to look fine but I will double check. The reason I thought it could be related to PS is it does not happen with Word or Excel. For that reason I eliminated Windows as the culprit. In this case we are using SBS 2003 on the server.
