I recently photographed a job for a civic group. They asked me to watermark the files, so they could look at them in a larger format than I originally delivered. I did so, without creating an archive copy of the work. Is there any way to retrieve the original files or to take the watermark off these images?

I am using Photoshop CS v.8.0, & Windows XP Pro

Thank you for your input!

oops!

lesson learned? happens to the best of us… once.

cropping or clone and healing tools are all you can do.

what i do is copy from camera to pc. IMMEDIATELY set those files to READ ONLY (in explorer, right click, properties, check read only). that way i can’t overwrite them without a big ugly warning popping up that reminds me to NEVER OVERWRITE THE ORIGINALS.

sorry, wish i had better news for you.

let me just add a caveat. did you save them with a watermark on a separate layer? or are they jpg (single background layer only)? if they’re jpgs, they’re permanently marked. if the watermarks are on a separate layer, you can just delete that layer, you could even do them all with an action in a batch.

Sorry, but that is really a strange way of working. You should always archive your original photographs and work on copies.

Never work on an original file ever, ever, ever.

Also when watermarking always do it on a layer you can turn off later.

Oh well time to reshoot.
