This is a comment/gripe/complaint on Adobe’s installation for CS4.

I downloaded my CS4 update I had just purchased. Prior to installing it, I attempted to uninstall CS3. I ran into problems doing this, and a Google search led me to Adobe’s wincs3clean script. I followed the instructions and cleaned all of CS3 from my computer. I thought I should have been good to go.

After running setup.exe, I was informed that it cannot continue because Acrobat Fast Start was running. I must close this first. I had no clue what it was referring to, and I was unaware of an Acrobat Fast Start even existing on my computer. I brought up Windows’ Task Manager, and I saw no Acrobat Fast Start listed. I did see a process called acrobat_fs.exe (I’m going by memory now, so this might be slightly incorrect), so I took a wild guess and terminated it. I re-ran setup, and the installation failed for reasons unknown to me. The error message was extremely vague stating that a component failed to install.

Okay — so I go to uninstall CS4 from my machine to reboot and retry the installation. Why in the world does CS4 take so long to uninstall? This makes absolutely no sense to me. It did not get that far into the installation, and CS4 was not functional at all. I don’t understand why I was watching a progress bar barely moving with little or no disk activity.

(and no — I do not have a virus or malware on my computer)
