I am in PS 7 (Yeah my knuckles drag a little but I can’t afford to upgrade) Everything works great until I try to save the image. then it freezes but not completely. I can still move around but all of the menu items are dead and nothing works.
I have re installed 6 times and still the same.
has anyone seen this?

you know you’re no longer in the upgrade cycle right? if you ever want to upgrade you’ll have to get a new full license unless you can get a copy of cs3. for cs4 you have to be at version 8 (CS) or later to upgrade…

sounds like the dialog box is off screen. please check this faq: <http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.1de62d18/0>

if you still can’t get the box up after trying those suggestions, reset your preferences, per this faq:
<http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1>

hope this helps, dave

As an extension to the first link, make sure that not tools like NVidia Desktop manager are relocating dialogs and Windows. If you use them, remove any custom entry pertaining to Photoshop from their config list, also.

good point. ati also has a desktop manager called hydravision that does the same thing… worth looking into if neither of those faqs helps.

I don’t think the problem is dialog boxes showing up off screen. The "save for web" or the standard "save" window show up. The pop up asking for the save quality shows up. I can’t think of any other windows related to a simple save exist. It is a great suggestion since it acts like there is an unseen window. It is an INVDIA Geforce MX5200 adapter and it has multi screen capabilities but a check in properties shows that it only sees one monitor. I have looked to see if there is something else starting and I have minimized to see anything behind.
But that is how it acts. However there is one difference. If you try to overlook an open dialog box it "gongs" you and there is no tone sounding.

I had done all of it accept the ctrl/alt/shift on start up. I even tried a different graphics card. now I tried the 3 key startup and iot seems to work. I’ll check in after a few working with it. We are planning a trip into some of the quake hit areas near Chengdu so I’ll have plenty of pix to work with.
thanks to all

no prob. the reset prefs thing works because the save dialog somehow got pushed off screen. resetting the preferences resets all dialogs.

do you have the 7.01 update? there were some major fixes in there…

I had done it many years ago and I assumed that, since it sends and receives 2 files each time it starts, it was up to date but now that you have brought it up it isn’t (is now.)
Our computers tend to grow with us and we don’t think too much about it. I was the company IT so I have built so many I don’t remember them all, even my own. I doubt that there is a single screw that was a part of the box I had when I first started with Photoshop.
I don’t have "alltimers" but I definitely have sometimers. Let me be a good example of someone who thought that just because we did something in the past, it is still as such in the present.
