If I select Photoshop Help, from the Help pull down menu in Photoshop CS4 I just get the error "HTTP 404 Not Found". Is there a solution to this, I didn’t have this problem with CS3?

At least you get that. I can select help and I end up in a white screen waiting for the internet page to open, which never does.

Ok, it appears to be working now. Pressing F1 takes me to:

Hi CR,

The link you hit is for Community Help. Try again and you should get the Web Help system with a link to the new Community help system.

We were getting some crossed redirects.

Yes, it’s working now…now if only you could tell me why the PS CS4 doesn’t see my Wacom Intuos3 as a pressure sensitive device on either my laptop or my desktop….but that’s the subject of another thread I started…

Never mind about the pressure sensitive problem. It suddenly started working and I deleted the thread…

I definitely say that this is not fixed nor resolved. Two computers running Vista (one is Business 32, the other is Ultimate 64) both have this issue.

What I’m most curious about is the JavaScript code in the "white page" with the AH_ION=true pages, especially the comment on line 2 here that seems to indicate that I should have some setting in my preferences that should tell the browser to go to the correct help page or not. If that’s true, where do I set that and WHY should I need to.

if (document.location.href.indexOf("AH_ION=true") > 0) { // check the user help preference cookie "ah_userpref" // if its set to "wh_page", redirect to the help system if (document.cookie.indexOf("ah_userpref=wh_page") > 0 ){ redirectUrl = "index.html";

// otherwise ,redirect to the community help and support page }else{
var loc = getLangName();
redirectUrl = "http://www.adobe.com/go/lr_Dreamweaver_community_en"; if (loc == "en_US") {
var id = getSamcapId();
if (id.length > 0) {
redirectUrl = redirectUrl + "?trackingid=" + id; }
}
var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-2987543-3"); pageTracker._trackPageview();
}
}

Thanks very much for posting that link to the Help file, CR Henderson.

I just upgraded from CS2 to CS4 yesterday and was flabbergasted that there was NO help file on either of the 2 DVD’s. A 40 Mb file and they couldn’t add it to the install disc? I just spent several hours trying to find it w/o success until I happened across your posting. It’s not mentioned in the FAQ section. It’s not available on the software download area. I still haven’t found the link you provided from the normal Adobe site.

Frankly Adobe, that’s CS and I don’t mean Creative Suite!

obviously trying to sell your their $$ courses
which must renew with each update to keep certified with any upgrade you have to take the course again and PAY

now if you layout the big bucks for a new camera you also have to pay for the CS4 upgrade or use DNG (waste of time)
then of course cs4 won’t run on your existing comp for most of us requiring more $$ to upgrade all your hardware

of course you can’t run your shop without these things so they have us hostage to this blackmail

cs4 sounds so horrid anyway
it should be in beta mode
and cs3 support should not be pulled until 4 is fixed patched whatever

and there is no reason not to provide raw support for new cameras in cs3 which is great and does everything I need and more
this would be courteous and promote loyalty instead of animosity to Adobe users

No help file? You mean you have to go online to access help for CS4? I’m using CS3 at work, and they’re wondering if moving to CS4 is worthwhile… but, if I had any say on purchase decisions, these kind of minor (and rather odd) annoyances would make me hesitate a bit to make the plunge.

I mean, OK, one could download that PDF, and practically everyone is online these days, but I can’t understand the reason for this change. Surely Adobe knows it is faster and more reliable to have the help files in the HDD than on the web. I guess that way they can constantly improve and edit the help, but still…

Faster updating information: maybe. But since I have upgraded to PS CS4 Extended, when ever I have the program open, doing normal work on a picture, and I click on help it comes up just fine. However, with CS4 open and the web help page displayed, if I click on internet explorer to open another web page I get a page that is blank and not connected to the net. I have to open Task manager to clear the blank page. If I click to close the web help, then and only then, can I open internet explorer and surf for what I need. I can open internet explorer pages all I want with CS4 closed or open as long as help on the net is not open. So long ago I downloaded the help file and just use that if needed.
