PS CS4 using GPU for calculations

I mean like running filters, zooming, rotating, and panning, things that are intensive.

Filters are generally non-accelerated in PS, to my knowledge. All other acceleration features function on other qualified cards just as well. You should not mistake this specially branded and certified product for the only source. Also, unless you are using the whole suite, you would not buy it just for Photoshop. Its other features like providing accelerated video encoding in Premiere and After Effects are much more important to those users, which are a much more sensible crowd for such an expensive piece of hardware.

Photoshop accelerates 3D work, and basic canvas drawing using the GPU.

Photoshop filters cannot yet be accelerated on the GPU (they don’t handle large images well at all).

Most of what is shown accelerated on filtering is from After Effects or Premiere (which tend to work in screen rez images).

What do you mean by "calculations". Photoshop CS4 works perfectly fine with my two ATI Radeon 1650 Pro cards. All of the GPU stuff CS4 offers is supported and works perfectly.
