People come here to find solutions, whether it’s for CS3 or CS4 doesn’t even matter, fact is that people paid quite some money for their software and want to get it working and you call that whining? I find your post highly inappropriate.
(Btw, IΒm not defending myself, I havenΒt asked questions on this forum for years)
I agree with Wings here….Stop whining Jeff π
Without feedback (which I would use instead of whining, for the most part) there is no there there.
And yes staggering, but let’s go back to newton if not farther to find staggering to the imagination.
And guess what? Advances come from those whom others, of less imagination call whiners.
Your post offers no suggestions for advancement. The same people who brought you Photoshop are the same people capable and empowered to sift through all the threads and make sense, without taking it personally.
The Sr Director, Engineering and Program Management himself is actively involved, on line, in efforts to fix things. On the Firing Line, so to speak.
I don’t think Jeff is talking about the people who need help but the people who pop in just to whine.
Thanks for saying this, photoshop is not something that you learn over night, nothing good is something you learn over night for that point. Stop complaining sit back and get ready for a little bit of a learning curve.
Feedback is good, whining sucks, I agree.
From what I can see the only whining post is this one……Sorry to bang on about it but I can’t believe the hypocrisy of the original post.
Jeff: We are all incredibly happy that everything is working well for you, but these forums are here to express problems and look for solutions, even if the OP overlooked something.
Occasionally people pop in to say ‘Photoshop sucks… I’ll never use it again’, so we ignore those posts and help people who need it.
….and they generally don’t actually follow through…
Then they come back to say ‘Photoshop sucks… I’ll never use it again’ and then we ignore them π
As far as I know whining never solved any technical issues with Photoshop.
Of the thousands of posts here, one that doesn’t deal with the technical aspects of Adobe’s product isn’t exactly significant. Like it or not, discussion boards are in part, cultural. When I read someone’s post saying "Adobe sucks", that’s not constructive, useful or appropriate and my post was directed to those who feel the need to express themselves that way. It’s disruptive and serves no purpose other than to allow the emotionally immature to vent.
Some even complain about being asked not to complain. WTH is that?
I don’t make a habit of these posts, so inappropriate? Nooooo. Only whiners would be offended by this and frankly, asking for changes in bad habits isn’t an emotional plea, it’s simply practical, logical and necessary.
Photoshop CS4 is an excellent release. It’s only been out for a week. Give them a chance to respond to intellectually-oriented feedback instead of complaints. A constructive attitude makes for a much more efficient and effective forum.
…..where is that ‘ Adobe Sucks ‘ post ? I haven’t seen such a thing here recently.
…. it’s probably in the archives somewhere.
Just got my CS4 Master Suite, finishing off a job so I can install it.
Well it’s installed and PSCS4 is absolutely stellar. Boom-chicka-boom-boom-boom. It runs way faster than CS2.
I like the 2sec start up!
…. and Bridge is instant. π
Yeah, Bridge CS3 really sucked, it kept falling over so I went back to the previous version. CS4 is a big improvement, although…….
On my Vista 64 installation the Help menu or F1 goes straight on line, ie there is no Help file installed on disk. Is this normal?
JJ: Seems this is the new way of "helping". What if you are on an ‘offline’ workstation?
Honestly, this is better than the stupid .zip versions of help they had that took so long to extract and could pick up any font on your system at random.
OK, so it’s normal.
What if you are on an ‘offline’ workstation?
I suppose you have to copy the PDF version to disk.
Yes, but then F1 wouldn’t be helpful.
Damn, now I’ll have to read a book.
John and Bart,
A local copy of Help is installed. If you are offline, or have no connection than it will fallback to that location. Of course this is static info and the online version has the added benefit of ongoing comments\corrections. (A quick way to see this is to unplug your ethernet connection.)
I’m not sure if you can change the behavior so that F1 always goes to the local location but I’m looking into it. Another thing you could do is create a script that launches a browser and opens the local file. Then reassign F1 to execute that script.
Steve: I noticed that the Master Collection does not appear to have PDF versions of user guides. I find that they are a good way to acquaint yourself with a new application. Did I miss something?
Hi Bart,
I don’t know if PDF versions are part of the install, but I don’t think so. The installed help files I see for Photoshop are html.
If you have the DVD media, take a look at the Extras outside the installer disks. I haven’t seen any media so I can’t say with certainty what’s there.
If you used the download option, then you probably have to go to the online help for each point product and download the PDF version (look on the far right of the Community landing page). BTW, take a look at the new Community Help system if you haven’t already.
There’s also some very nice resources on Bridge Home if you haven’t looked. Launch Bridge and then click on Bridge Home in the Favorites panel.
Thanks for the clarification Steve.
I don’t find it a problem. In the early days it’s not a bad thing to land on the community page, to see what’s going on in the brave new world of CS4. And the ability to comment on the help pages is a good idea (although you might regret it! π ).
Steve: Looked all over but didn’t find them. I appreciate how the help files work, but they answer one particular question in isolation. The User Guides were a good overview of the product, particularly if they are a new product for the purchaser.
Bart,
I found the full PS CS4 PDF manual hidden in plain sight on the photoshop help web page.

If you look in the upper right corner next to the google bar there are 2 PDF’s – one for PS and one for Bridge.
They’re called:
Photoshop help (printable)
Bridge help (printable)
Jeff
Jeff: So I guess I’ll have to hunt for the rest of them too, I got the Master Collection. At least I know how to look.
