I will be rebuilding my system in the next week or so, and will be going with Vista 64-bit. I just checked Wacom’s site, and they don’t have Vista listed under the driver downloads for my aging Artz II UD serial tablet.

Is anybody using this tablet under Vista? I am planning to buy a new Intuous eventually anyway; will it have to be now rather than later? With the cost of the hardware for my new system, plus the cost of the the upgrade to CS4 Design Premium, I want to shepherd my spending a little.

I have an old Intuous 9×12 serial and when I was looking on wacom.com last week and they have stopped supporting serial tables in the latest drives, although the serial driver is included its untested. The previous release was the last fully supported one for serial tablets.

The latest driver appears to work ok but I am using XP Pro (32bit), the info on the site would suggest that serial tablets are not supported on Vista.

With a new Intuous, I wouldn’t have to run a cable from the COM port header to a D-sub 25 connector I’d have to mount on the case, as the Asus P5Q Deluxe I have on order doesn’t have one on the back panel.

Plus, with a new Intuos, I could use the "Intuous Privleges" to get a discount on the new version of Painter (my old version 5 wouldn’t run under XP, I don’t konw if Vista would be different)

I’ll have to put that 30 inch monitor that looks so cool on the back burner for now, I guess.

Oh dear, more expense! 🙂

The word from Wacom support: serial tablets will not work under Vista or any 64-bit OS.

6 x 11 Intuous, here I come!
