Hi,

I just upgraded to photoshop cs4 from cs2, and I noticed that a feature which I really, really loved is now gone, and that is the Use Adobe Dialog option in the open/save/save as file browser.

I don’t see any option for this anymore…was it taken out in CS4 or CS3? Or is there an option to enable it that I’m just missing?

This let me access my favorite folders on the right side of the file browser to easily navigate there, which It’s very much missed 🙁

It is there in CS3, gone in CS4. However, if ‘favorites’ is all you desire then you can navigate to a folder you wish to be a ‘favorite’, then click on the folder icon with a star in it in the upper right and add the current folder to ‘favorites’. Favorites is also accessed by clicking on the folder.

Ah that stinks that they removed it. 🙁 I wonder why? That was SO useful!

I found that folder with the star you were talking about, but it’s only in the open dialog..not in the save where it’s really needed, unless I’m missing it but I don’t think so. I’m using WinXP.

Yes, Adobe dialog is gone. But the Version control is still there. You could create an adobe drive and the driver will show in the open/save dialog just like a network connection.

The favorite icon only exist in Open dialog.

In Win XP you can add a location to the left-hand side of the Open and Save boxes. I haven’t worked out how to do it in Vista yet.

Using TweakUI Common Dialogs > Places Bar.

If you haven’t got TweakUI, download it from the Microsoft site.

To add a location to the left-hand side of the Open and Save dialog boxes in Vista it’s same as XP, use the group policy editor:

Go to
Start > Run > gpedit.msc > User Configuration > Adminstrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer > Common Open File Dialog

Enable "Items displayed inPlaces Bar"
type the path to the desired location
