You’re the greatest. I removed the Nik Selective Tool (SelectivePalette.8li) and my problem (a blank arrange documents menu) was gone.
Thank you.
Please report this to Nik, so they can fix their plugins.
Chris, it looks to be more than reporting it to a company so they can fix it…PixelGenius, who has very similar problems with Photokit Color 2.1.1. (most recent version) informed me that they have determined it is a bug in Photoshop CS4 and that they have reported it to Adobe. With PhotoKit Color 2 installed, if you run the plug in once, the icons reappear for Arrange Documents BUT you have to do this every single time you open Photoshop. Can you provide some additional information? Is PixelGenius correct in that this is a CS4 issue that Adobe needs to address?
John – we’re still talking to PixelGenius about that. It sounds like a misunderstanding of how resources work, and how persistent plugins work on their part.
With regard to the Nik Selective plugin I’ve found that there’s no need to remove it, if you do Help-About Plugins-Nik Selective the icons reappear. You have to do this each time you open Photoshop however.
Chris – I appreciate the reply. It’s frustrating though. CS4 has been out since mid-October – two months – and there is still finger pointing as to whose problem it is with various plug-ins, whether PixelGenius, NIK, OnOne, etc.; and even "fixed" plug-ins, like those from OnOne and NIK aren’t fixed…they’re workarounds or "live with it" solutions. Various plug-ins are an essential part of the workflow for many, probably the majority, of Photoshop users; it’s disheartening that their seems to be so little collaboration between some of the major player and Adobe and vice-versa. I know it may be a bit too idealistic to think that updated plug-ins and the newest version of Photoshop would be released simulataneoulsy, but eight weeks without progress in some instances is baffling.
John – yes, I’m rather disappointed that some plugin vendors feel the need to point fingers at Adobe rather than fix their bugs. We have gone out of our way to get them early access, give them early documentation, work with them to test their plugins and in some cases bring them to our offices to work through tricky problems… So I’m really not sure what more we can do to ensure that third party plugin developers fix their bugs before or soon after we ship Photoshop.
Having the same issues. Before I uninstall CS4 just wanted to check if this problem is resolved.
If not fixed in some way that I’m missing, I’d rather use CS3 with my plugins (NIK, OnOne, Photokit), than a half working CS4, or no plug ins — often an essential part of the workflow. I can easily live with CS3 and wait till Adobe updates or for CS5.
Thanks for the info.
I wish there were someway to get the folks from Adobe, NIK, OnOne and PixelGenius to read these forums and respond collectively. Over two months since the release of CS4 and plug-ins still "break" the GUI for the Arrange Documents menu…NIK says they’re working on it, OnOne hasn’t responded recently, PixelGenuis says it’s an bug with Photoshop CS 4 and that they’ve contacted Adobe about it; a lot of finger-pointing, a lot of seeming inactivity to correct the issue, and the folks that have invested their money in the products these companies put out are left hanging. I sincerely do not understand why it should take so long to get resolved, particularly with companies that, by default, need to work closely together. Is there any update to be had?
Since the Help – About makes the menu visible, I infer that the problem is within CS 4. Adobe clearly just blows this off by saying to uninstall software from Nik, OnOne, etc which may be feasible if the vendors have updated versions but some don’t.
BTW, I’d be surprised if the various vendors didn’t lurk around these fora. We are their customers. Any vendor with the ability to lurk around a place where his customers discuss his product will surely do so. Vendors may not post but they must know what’s up here and in other places where users chat.
