Well I just got the Master Collection installed, other than some minor installation qualms, it was easy.

My initial feelings about PS is that is absolutely stellar. The app loads in about two seconds, it loads a 50Mb file is about a second, you can do whatever you want with immediate results. Absolutely no problems here. Just wanted to say thanks to the engineers. You got this nailed.

System specs:
Vista Ultimate 64 (fully loaded with everything)
8GB Mushkin RAM
GeForce 8600GT (256Mb RAM, OGL 2.1, ShaderModel 4)
Dual monitors (twin Dell WFPs @ 1920 x 1200)
5 Hard Drives
2600 + fonts active (mostly Open Type with some TTFs)

Again, great work!

To talk to Adobe you use a different link… this is a user to user forum, not Adobe support

In my experience, just over 7GB if you want (with the 64-bit app). The OS typically reserves the rest.

Bart: thanks for the post – I’ll be sure to share it with the team 🙂

My desktop is almost identical to Bart’s with 8 GB OCZ Reaper 1066 and a Maximus II Formula (16 GB) mobo w/Intel Q9550 (not OC’d) and 512MB on my GPU and I’ve had the same experience. Default memory allocation is about 4GB and I left it there, but it sees about 7GB. At 4GB PSCS4x64 screams. My files are generally over 1GB and it takes about 15 seconds to load with around 100 layers. Screen redraws are instantaneous.

This is the product of the century. The only thing I’m waiting for is the plugins to catch up. I do the plugin work in the 32-bit version and design work in 64-bit, but it’s worth the hassle.

In my opinion this release is worth far more than it costs. Photoshop on steroids. It helps to have as much hardware as you can afford, too, but my jaw is still hanging after a week of playing.

I think CS4 x64 is the best update so far. I’m still finding nice little tweaks. I’m going to explore the 3D next week and see what can be achieved with that….definitely worth every penny.

It works really well on a 16gb, asus p5q deluxe, , 8800gts 640mb, eizo cg301w + dell 2407, plenty of hard drives…..

Just to join in the encomium – PS CS4 is the bee’s knees!

Everything works as advertised.

Looking forward to "The Configurator".

Adobe should get Arnie to launch it! 🙂

I know I forgot something:

I have a Q6600 CPU on a Asus P5K Premium board.

I left all the settings as they were installed, except for the color settings & I bumped the cache level to 8.

Adam: The team needs to know that most people really like the new 64bit version and, as usual, there will still be teething problems for a limited sub-set of users. I may not be very helpful in solving their problems.

I would like to point out that before I did the update, I installed an updated driver for my video card, and de-activated/uninstalled all my older versions.

Jeff: Impressive. I’ll have to wait a few generations, but it’s good to know what 64 bit Photoshop can do.

Just wait until solid state drives drop down in price.

…….yeah…I need a few of those ssd’s. OCZ v2’s have problems but the Intel’s should be flying….that’s the next upgrade on the list, when they are eventually released.

Bart: True. Just reading up on them. Samsung is getting a 250 GB model ready by the end of this year. Maybe some issues to be worked out,but it’s getting close.

I have an old ad from 1982 listing a 10 MB drive for $3349. Times sure have changed.
