PhotoShop 7.0.1 under Windows XP fails to open certain PDF files created with Adobe Acrobat 6. The PDF files are created in the temp directory by Acrobat for editing by PS. But when PhotoShop tries to open the file, I get the following error message:
"Could not open *.pdf because of a problem with the file-format module interface" This does not happen when I open other PDF files, saved in regular fashion with Acrobat. Any suggestions?

Means the data is not in a format that PS would expect for a PDF, for whatever reason. Since I don’t have AA6, I don’t know if there’s some added functionality/compatability issues, but PS can’t recognize that as a PDF.

See if those PDF’s in the temporary directory can be opened in Acrobat. If they can, as a kind of diagnostic, see if you can save/rename it then open the same, renamed file in Photoshop.

Also, there may be some issues with AA6 and PS7 that are not yet reported; Photoshop has several ways to open a PDF: through Edit from AA, Drag-n-drop, Open As.., Import. I would try some of those (less obvious) options.

Peace,
Tony

EDIT: I just tried to do a search on that message in the PS knowledgebase and for some reason am not able to search the KB. But that message you are getting isn’t exactly like the one I’ve seen that means "uh, you sure this is a PDF buddy?". It may be an indicator of buggy module in AA6 (there’s a few of them from what I hear), or as I say, it could be that the PDF has new features that are trying to be passed to Photoshop that PS can’t understand – it’s all a guess on my part. Hopefully someone from Adobe will bop in and clarify it.
