My wife and I each have downloaded upgrade versions CS3 on septate computers. She is taking a class in Photoshop using the Adobe Classroom in a Book as a text. About a month ago she started to have problems getting selection tools and brushes etc. to work. None of those types of tools work at all now.

She has downloaded the latest upgrades. We have completely removed Photoshop from the computer, and reinstalled it twice. No help. The computer is scanned for viruses and bots. All other applications work fine. She is now having to use my computer to complete her class work. 😕

Has anyone experienced this problem and solved it?

are you using a tablet? if so, move the stylus (far) away from the tablet when using the mouse, or move the mouse away when using the stylus. you might also check if that’s it by unplugging the tablet from the usb port.

Actually, I discovered this information by looking at a similar answer posted in the knowledge base. It specified Wacom tablets. Was that you also?

Funny, I use a Wacom tablet with no problems. Of course it is a different model. I browsed through the Wacom sight looking for information on PhotoShop compatibility problems, and found none. Since the tablet and pen is such a useful tool, I guess we will look for another tablet for her computer.

Thanks for your response.

maybe. it’s kind of known behavior. could have been any of a number of us forum regulars. 🙂

I think most here would recommend wacom above all other brands of tablets both for quality and support from the wacom people.

She is now using a standard mouse and not the tablet.

if that works for you, i think most here would also recommend ditching the el cheapo wacom mouse but sticking with the wacom tablet & stylus. get a good mouse like some of the nicer logitechs or MS mice available. but wacom is THE name in tablets though. stick with them.

I think the Wacom mouse is "basic" rather than "el cheapo" in that it only has two buttons and a clickable scroll wheel. It’s accurate enough and has the advantage of working on the tablet thus saving space and wires.

ok ok ok.

but you’ll have to pry my logitech mx1000 wireless laser mouse from my cold dead fingers! 🙂

I like my Wacom mouse well enough, but I am not too demanding. So maybe the answer is to get her a wireless mouse and keep the tablet and pen at hand next to the keyboard.

Thanks John and Dave

if you’re more attached to the tablet and stylus more than the mouse that came with it, that is definitely your answer! 🙂
