trying to remove poster from a wall

The easiest way would be to take out the entire wall and replace it with something suitable?

Great picture!

I’d suggest you select a section of the wall with the lasso tool – make the edges somewhat irregular, like a puzzle piece.

Then copy and paste the piece of wall, creating a new layer. Use the move tool to move the chunk of wall to cover the poster, and use the eraser to clean up the edges Add just a bit of shadow with the burn tool to re-create the shadow. Repeat for the left side.

Why not just remove the background completely and replace with something else?

I don’t have time to upload the result right now but the poster was removed in about 60 seconds in PS 7 by first making a tight selection of the wall (including the poster), converting it to a layer, then using the ‘patch’ tool to replace the poster with wall textured material.

You have to select out the wall first before using the ‘patch’ tool or the kids skin tone will blend into the patch selection ruining it.
