Can you be more specific? When does it disappear? Are you hitting Caps Lock by any chance?

When i start CS3 i dont see the round sign of the eraser.. only like cross, i click right mouse choose other shape and cant see the other shape sing to. Only see like small cross or + After 10-15min i dont use cs3 when its still open, the sing is back to round or other shape i choose..

Increase the brush size or decrease the image zoom. The "plus" indicates that the brush size at the current zoom is to small to display anything other than a point – thus "plus".

A PLUS sign not within a circle indicates the eraser brush size is TOO LARGE rather than too small. You can see just how large on the options bar. Reduce the brush size (via successive clicks of the left bracket key "[")to restore a visible eraser brush icon. If you get just a crosshairs, press Caps Lock once.

I get a set of cardinal marks around my small brush in CS3, George. At 3 pixels (100% view), I can see a circle surrounded by the marks, at 1 and 2 pixels, it looks like the same "plus" as a 3000-pixel brush.

J Maloney,

Yes, at very small brush diameter the icon can be mistaken for a tiny plus sign.

The brush icon you see is determined by the choice you make under Preferences > Cursors which are:

Standard

Precise

Normal

Full Size

You may choose ONE and only one of the above. For any of the choices, you may then opt to "Show Crosshairs" within the brush.

I’m thinking the OP had Full Size and Show Crosshairs set. The circular brush outline will then go off-screen when the brush diameter is too large for the resolution used, leaving only crosshairs equivalent to a "plus" sign. Other Preference choices will give other results.

It could be related to this:

John,

Not likely because the OP is using CS3, not CS4 which allegedly makes the cursor vulnerable to the video card bug cited.
