how to solve pixelation, ives always been confused!

Hi!

I have created a background on photoshop which prints out fine but when I view it on the screen on view it in flash where I want to use it for a background, the edges are all pixelated, my dimesions are 16:9 so I did 16cm by 9cm. does anyone know how to solve this problem, sorry if its sounds daft im a newbee!

How many pixels does the image contain?

Assuming you need the image for Flash output….

If you keep everything the same size you should be ok.

i.e if your flash output is, say, 800×450 pixels then keep the background image 800×450 pixels@ 72 ppi. If Flash is resizing the image above this then it will pixelate….is the Flash image at 100%?

My image is 16 X 9cm on both flash and ps but its still pixelated, the image is originally pixelated though, I want to somehow make it less pixelated, also the res it nearly 500!

16 X 9cm…500!

Stop thinking in terms of centimeters and resolution. Design by pixels high by pixels wide and view in PS and Flash at 100%. The other measures do not matter here.

the main source of pixlation is through the lasso tool and it doesn’t give a neat diagonal line, its almost like stairs because its pixelated it you get me = S

What Jim said.

In Flash, you have dimensions for the movie (Modify>Document>Dimensions). Use whatever those dimensions are in your Photoshop document, as pixel dimensions.

Helen: The lasso tool will not give you a straight line, it will always conform to the edge of a pixel which is square.
