I have CS2 and have loaded the plug-in for Jpeg 2000. I now find that I cannot save as an ordinary Jpeg. I know that 2000 et al is superior but a Jpeg2000 file cannot be read by many of the people I am in contact with re: family history.

How can I recover ordinary Jpeg please?

Hehe, I guess you’ll get stuck with a chicken vs. egg problem eventually, but moving the plugin out of the directory should bring things back to normal. Now you will only have to find another program to convert your J2K files, which is easily doable with XnView for instance…

Is your file RGB and 8 bit/channel?
