I’ve recently been dealing with problems related to the startup Reading Preferences in which I deleted/hid/moved preference files to solve the long lagtime it took to startup. Problem solved but was unrelated to the Preferences files.

Now it seems I’ve lost ACR. Whenever I’ve tried to open Olympus Raw files (OCR) either in Bridge or Photoshop (CS2) I get a window saying "could not complete your request as it is the wrong kind of document" ! The OCR thumbnails still show up in Bridge and PS so it’s not like the raw files have lost the ACR association. And I see the ACR plugin is still in the Files folder (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS2\File Formats)

This has never happened until maybe a week or two ago (about the time I was having problems with the startup)

Suggestions?

Okay, I solved my problem (I need to do more research before I waste space here) … It seems my version of ACR was 3.0 and I read elsewhere it needs to be higher, so I downloaded 3.7, installed into the correct folder and bingo! I did have a computer crash over a month ago, got a new computer, re-installed PS6 and upgrades to CS2 so I guess ACR 3.7 was not installed, but rather with the default 3.0 for CS2. But it is curious I’ve been using ACR 3.0 just fine until a week or so ago.

Anyway, all’s well!
