When i try to open Adobe Photoshop it gets through the loading screen and then comes up with this error message: "The exception unknown software exception (0xc06d007e) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812aeb" and it closes the program wether i hit "OK" or "CANCEL"

I have tried a number of different photoshop versions including CS2, and 7.0, and i have gotten the same error message every time. I have obviously tried installing and uninstalling. This error does not occur when i run my copy of Adobe Photoshop Premiere Pro 1.5

Does anybody know what is wrong, or can anyone help me resolve this issue please? I miss Photoshop and hate using Paint.net!

Well, clearly a memory/ DLL pointer error, just no idea which one. At which point do the apps crash? What is the last message stated in the splash screen? Since it occurs with all versions of PS, it must be some case of a required component being missing or having been replaced on a system wide level. Did you recently install/ uninstall other Adobe products?

in addition to those good questions, are you sharing plugins across versions? each versions installed in it’s own (default) directory?

Go into computer management, system tools and look for information in Event Viewer and also Performance Logs and Alerts for more information (if you have it turned on). The information may give you more hints.

It fails when the splash menu says "initializing shared components"

No other Adobe programs recently added

Yes, each application is installed in the default directory.

The CPU usage hits 100% when i try to start Photoshop but thats normal i think.

Since "c06d007e at address 7C812AEB (kernel32!RaiseException)" showed up I agree with Mylenium that something changed in the operating system at core level. Can you do a system restore to a date before you noticed this problem? Maybe try using your operating system disk to do a repair. System restore would be my first choice.

Good luck

Sadly, it could also be caused by a driver….

System restore no go on several dates.

Splash screen won’t even appear.

Onl things I have installed in the last month have been MalWareBytes Anti-Malware ( to remove Virtumondo virus) and Google SketchUp.

ANY other input would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried deleting Photoshop’s preferences files (just in case they were corrupt)?

If that doesn’t solve it – then you’re looking for something that changed on your system outside of Photoshop.

Yup, no go… it doesn’t even get to the point of replacing the prefs file. ARGH.

I’ve tried uninstall/reinsatall PS TWICE.

I have CS4 upgrade handy – maybe I’ll just try and install it and see if things will start to bloody work.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

Rudi – not resetting preferences, going in and deleting the files. That doesn’t involve launching the app at all.

The problem isn’t in the Photoshop code.
The problem could be with a preferences file (but I doubt it), or it could be with some external factor (bad OS install, bad driver, conflict with a utility, etc.).
