I want to print large documents :-

roll paper on an A1 printer ,or sent to a print house
printing banners 5 feet long.

I need to print at 300dpi

Photoshops limit of 30k * 30k pixels is stopping me doing this.

My questions are :-

1. Would using Adobe Illustrator allow me to do this ?.
2. Is there a work around in Photoshop ?.
3. Is there something I’m not doing properly.

Thanks for your help

1. Would using Adobe Illustrator allow me to do this ?.

not sure

2. Is there a work around in Photoshop ?.

not as far as i know

3. Is there something I’m not doing properly.

no!

but…….my suggestion is to use Qimage. I had a similar problem printing panoramics and Qimage was able to do this no problem.

if there is a work around for PS7 I would like to know too!

I used to work for a print company which had special software used to scale the images to the correct output size, so if you created it in illustrator (as a vector image obviously) it would not matter about the original size as long as it was in proportion.

Why? 5′ = 60" x 300ppi = 18,000 pixels

You shouldn’t need one.

3. Is there something I’m not doing properly.

aparently. Are you running out of disk space or RAM?

Thanks for your help

You can swap pixels for size. Called diming in the Scitex world. Not advised though.

3. Is there something I’m not doing properly.

I don’t think so.

Just curious, what sort of banners need that 300dpi
sort of detail?

Hi Chris!

You are requesting a Large-Format Printing solution. In the place where I work, we have a large format printer (Mutoh) and it has it’s special software (PosterShop) to handle interpolation of documents that print at 1440 DPI and measures anything up to 2.5 meters x 30 meters ! So don’t be afraid. For optimum file size you may size the real picture to tenth (1:10) the dimension and a resolution of 300 DPI. So If you plan to print 2m x 3m picture in a "GOOD" resolution for interior design, you only have to provide 20 cm x 30 cm picture at a resolution of 300 DPI. The RIP software provided with the large-format printer will do the required interpolation and provide excellent results. Now, be sure that you request your print to be done using dye-based ink on a Kodak photo-glossy paper and 720 DPI working resolution which will be more expensive since it takes longer time to print than 360 DPI.

Photoshops limit of 30k * 30k pixels is stopping me doing this.
I heard (someone correct me if I am wrong) that Photoshop CS has 10 times this pixel range (i.e. it is now supporting 300,000 x 300,000 pixels).
