Hello Everyone

I am very new to photoshop and I just downloaded the CS4 trial model to learn it. Well my question is that when I attempt to open a photo, the picture comes up in the little layers window on the right corner but there is no picture on the main screen. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

As far as my system specs: I am using Windows Vista x64, 4GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 8800GT 512MB, and the processor is the Intel 2.83GHz Quad core.

Thank You

Same for me….
AMD QuardCore 6 GB, ATI 4850, latest driver (CCC 8.11).
I also used the "DisallowOpenGL.." and "allowOldGPUs" – no chance – on opening a picture or even if you create an empty new one – Photoshop crashes. With the flag-file "GPUInitCrashed" – constantly!!

I strongly think there are still heavy problems in the product! (as other users stated in various forum entries).

regards
G.H.

So do you think I should get the CS3 model.

Are you using any software?

use window> arrange and try to bring the picture on screen. sounds lilke it’s off screen somewhere, since it seems to be open per the little image you describe (sounds like the navigator palette).

Well the problem seems to be half resolved, dave. I can see the picture only when I move around the entire window but as soon as I stop the window turns grey.

that almost definitely sounds like a driver problem. try turning hardware acceleration off on your card. if that clears it up, get the latest driver. if that doesn’t fix it, write the card manufacturer and explain your problem in detail. they’re busily working on new drivers.

Would downgrading to a CS3 make a difference?

it might, as cs3 doesn’t use the new card features. if you have cs3. it’s not generally available any more. you might try amazon… they had some copies left as of about a week ago.

(ps… don’t buy from amazon resellers. any copy you get through them is likely pirated, despite the shrink wrap and boxes! only buy it if you can click "add to cart" directly from the amazon page. not "see all buying options")

If looking for CS3 try Staples, Office Max or Office Depot. Q

Just to let you know – my problem (Photoshop crash with GPUInitCrash) is gone. How ? Deinstalled Asus GAMERS OSD SW – obviously it was the main-cause Photoshop crashed.

It works now
